Naomi asked me to chaperone the last field trip of the year with her Kindergarten class. I was so happy that it was smack in the middle of baby Foxley’s nap time that I didn’t have to bring him with and could enjoy this time just with her. Every year, for the last few years, the Kindergarten class has visited Misty Brook Farm just down the road from school. This year one of the owner’s sons is in Naomi’s class so she has been looking forward to this for a long time.
Misty Brook Farm in Albion, Maine is a 400 acre all-season farm. About half is still forest. It was a huge inspiration to visit such an amazing and huge local farm. All organic, raw and natural. Grass fed beef, cage-free chickens. It goes on and on.
Behind Naomi is the farm store. It’s always open. You can stop by and purchase anything from the farm right there on the spot. Bring along the family and take a tour whenever you want!
You’ve never seen hilarity until you watch 16 Kindergartners chasing 700 chickens in a field. Poor little mamas!
A section of woods had been newly cleared for expanding pig pasture. Having recently moved from Iowa it was a complete surprise and wonder to see pigs out in a field, with space to roam.
We were able to go right in with the dairy cows. They are completely used to being handled…obviously…
No worries, the boy sitting on this mama is the owner’s son 🙂
Visiting the big mama pigs and their new piglets.
On the bus ride back to school all I could think about was starting this new journey, mainly a new focus on being conscious about what I eat and sharing that on this site. I can’t wait until Luke comes home from his trip overseas and we can visit as a family! We will be purchasing from the farm store and I’ll link here to what I make!!
