Having family finally visit us out here in Maine has been such a blessing. Naomi wanted to show her cousins around Misty Brook Farm, the local farm where she went on her last field trip. See all about our trip to the local organic farm here. My in-laws and their three kids drove all the way from Iowa to see us and farming is a big deal in Iowa. However, this is totally not what we are used to!
400+ acres of wide open land. Horses that help plow the veggie gardens. Free range chickens that have their own trailers. Pastures for pigs and dairy cows that rotate with the crops to keep the animals and land healthy.
And what trip outdoors isn’t complete without wildflowers picked by your children. This boy is crazy sweet.
Farm dog who lives with the chickens year round and keeps them safe from foxes and other forest wildlife.
We came home this time with items from the year-round farm stand. Stone milled flour, milled on the farm, pork sausage, and two dozen eggs- still warm from the chickens! No fresher ingredients can be found. I think I’ll use some of that flour in Naomi’s famous pies!
